Doc & Phoebe’s Indoor Hunting Feeder uses refillable mouse-shaped feeders to turn access to dry food into an activity. It is worth considering if you can introduce it gradually and check how much each cat actually eats.

How does it work?

The cat moves the feeder to release food. You fill and place the mice yourself; there is no motor, feeding schedule or microchip-controlled access. Compare it with other cat puzzle feeders if you want a different activity format.

Start with an easy-to-find feeder and follow the kit’s training instructions. Watch your cat use it before making the task harder. A cat that ignores the feeder or cannot release the food needs a simpler setup and continued access to its usual feeding arrangement.

Portions and food compatibility

Use food suitable for the exact product and opening size. Measure the food you put in the feeders as part of your cat’s daily allowance, including any treats. A scoop or a full mouse is not a universal meal size: food energy content and individual feeding needs vary.

Everyday use and cleaning

Check the kit’s instructions for cleaning the plastic parts and fabric covers, then allow everything to dry before refilling. Inspect the feeders for damage and remove any damaged component from use. Keep a record of where you place each mouse so you can retrieve uneaten food and clean it.

• Count food in the mice within the daily feeding plan.
• Check what remains rather than assuming every feeder was emptied.

Limits to consider

These mice do not identify individual pets. In a multi-cat home, one cat may reach more food than another. Use separate feeding spaces and check each cat’s intake. Keep the feeders away from dogs and other animals that could take or damage them.

A hunting feeder offers an activity; it is not a guaranteed solution to vomiting, weight problems, night waking or other health or behaviour concerns. It also does not replace daily care or monitoring.
